Creighton / MECA Sign 10-year Extension

For the last 20 years, the Creighton Bluejay Men’s Basketball team has called MECA their home. First as the Quest Center, later the Centurylink Center, & now the CHI Health Center Omaha Arena. Throughout this span of time, the ‘CHICO’ has proven to be one of the BEST college basketball environments in the entire country. The venue is nationally recognized as one of the top home-court facilities annually, with Jays fans attending in droves – 17K-18K nightly for Bluejay tilts.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with MECA to have CHI Health Center Omaha serve as home of our men’s basketball program,” said Creighton’s McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom. “It’s proven to be one of the best venues in all of college basketball, and MECA has continued to make investments that appeal to our student-athletes and fans. We are looking forward to another great year where we attract over 17,000 loyal Bluejays fans a game cheering loudly in support of our student-athletes.”
“The Creighton Men’s Basketball team will continue playing at CHI Health Center Omaha for at least another decade after the University and the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority agreed to a 10-year extension that runs through the 2032-33 season.” Rob Anderson, CU SID.

Creighton Basketball is recognized as a perennial Top 10 team in attendance nationally, as well as the standard bearer for attendance in the Big East Conference. The University is also the main tenant of the facility. This extension amounts to a renewal of vows for the pair. The union of MECA/CHICO and the Creighton Bluejays has been a match made-in-heaven. A union in which we can expect to continue to see a very happy marriage.
