New Big East/ESPN Streaming Deal.

Hmmm, 2nd Marriages Rarely Work Out…

Hmmm? The Big East got lowballed again a little over a year ago in renegotiations with Fox. Now here comes the WWL and a new streaming contract. The BE has shitcanned the BEDN and Flosports.

Big East/ESPN’s new Streaming Deal.

Guessing this will offset the shortcomings of the Fox/NBC/TNT deal. Paint Touches (Marquette board) sources estimated BE value higher than the accepted deal: $100M/yr vs the $80M/yr negotiated & accepted. Projected team earnings $9M/yr vs actual $7.2M/yr in the Fox package.
The investment bank Allen & Company and the law firm Proskauer Rose advised the Big East throughout its negotiations over the new rights package.

I’m guessing this ESPN/Big East deal will be valued approx $20M/yr or $1.8M/yr/school, making up for the shortfall with the Fox deal. I’m not liking Proskauer Rose as conference negotiations agent. They negotiated this deal as well and appear far too conservative/timid in their approach to negotiations.

If this is the case, it moves the media rights needles for BE schools to $9M/yr/school. However, had Proskauer been more assertive last year, this move could have bumped BE schools to the $10-11M/yr/school media rights mark. Where we need to be… gtmo
