Today on Shootaround, we played the 𝘽𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚 Game. And, my mind is still boggled by this one. Completely caught off guard!
Following a week with 2 Quadrant 1 wins over Marquette (road) and Butler (home) the Creighton basketball team was rewarded with a pleasant surprise. The Jays, who are #9 in the NET and #10 in the RPI were voted into the AP Top 10/Coaches #11 this week. Jays also #6 in CBS poll, #11 in NBC poll, and #12 on ESPN.
Marcus Zegarowski made seven 3-pointers and finished with 25 points in Sunday’s 81-59 victory over Butler. This was CU’s fourth straight win over an AP Top 25 opponent and the 5th such win in the month of February. The Bluejays are 9-1 in their past 10 games with the lone loss in that stretch coming at Providence.
Butler: The Bulldogs came in with the Big East’s top defense, allowing 62 points per game. They had given up that many with 11 1/2 minutes left in the game, and Creighton’s 81 were the most Butler has allowed in regulation (Marquette had 89 in an overtime game). The Bulldogs’ offense couldn’t get any rhythm established without Baldwin and shot a season-worst 38%.
”They’re playing really well right now, as good as anybody in the country, as good as anybody in our league,” Butler coach LaVall Jordan said. ”We knew it would be a tough task to come in and match them.”
The Bluejays have a legitimate chance of winning at least a share of the Big East regular-season title. They sit one game back of Seton Hall right now but have a road game at St. John’s and a home date with Georgetown before the Pirates come to Omaha for the regular-season finale. Remember, Creighton won the first meeting between the two teams in New Jersey.

The Bluejays are real. Here are some of their significant wins (9-1 over their past 10 games) since they suffered an 83-80 loss at Georgetown on Jan. 15: 15-point win at Villanova (Feb. 1), 5-point win at Seton Hall (Feb. 12), 8-point win at Marquette (Feb. 18) and a 22-point win over Butler on Sunday.
Ty-Shon Alexander (16.9 PPG) and Marcus Zegarowski (16.1 PPG) lead a team that has made 39.5 percent of its 3-point attempts in Big East play. The Bluejays have hit the 90-point mark five times this season. They’re the best offensive team in the Big East by a healthy margin.
