Injury Update:  Krampelj’s Out…on deck Manny Suarez.

Martin Krampelj went down late in the 1st half vs Seton Hall on Wednesday night.  Reported today as a torn ACL of his left knee.  He was having a great season to date and was potentially in the running for conference honors.  He’s out for the season now and leaves Toby Hegner, Manny Suarez, and Ronnie Harrell up front.  This is the 2nd straight season with a significant injury to a starter (Watson last season).  Frosh Jacob Epperson had minor surgery on one knee earlier and his status is currently unknown, although he was being held out for a RS season this year.

On deck…Manny Suarez.  Manny is averaging 9.5 mpg, although he saw significant minutes during the non-conference slate.  Manny tallied double digit minutes against Alcorn, Northwestern, UCLA, and a couple of other games.  His minutes dropped significantly once the conference slate began.

Manny was brought in as a grad transfer to provide insurance against such injury(ies) in the post.  Now he will get his shot.  I am confident he will provide ample replacement defensively for Martin.  Grab some rebounds, block a few shots, and score when the game flow allows and the PGs get him the rock.  He doesn’t need to play hero ball, just play within the offense.  Manny is a widebody and has good touch.  Stay within the offense and flow – he should provide sufficient replacement to avoid a big dropoff in the paint.

The Jays play @Providence on Saturday, 20Jan18.

Recruiting Update

Got him!  The Jays had been in on several Euro and overseas recruits this season.  One of which was 7-footer Sam Froling from the Australia Institute of Sports in Canberra, Australia.  Froling and family (live in Melbourne) came to the States on recruiting visits – seeing Maryland, Wichita St, Arizona, and the Jays.  247 rates him as a 4-star, as does Scout.  Rivals has not rated him as he has not been in the US.  Yesterday Sam made his choice – to enroll at Creighton over finalist Arizona – to continue his education and hoops career.  Sam recently has played at AIS and for Australia’s Under-17 National Team.

Creighton has 1 more scholie.  Most think the Jays will hold it for a Spring ’18 transfer.   (However, I think they will grab another surprise big.)

Several links here to get the jist of Frolings talent:

Extremely excited to announce that I have committed to Creighton University! A big thanks to everyone who has helped me get to where I am at the moment. Keen to see what the future holds! 🐦

add to their 2018 recruiting class with a verbal from 4-star C Sam Froling. The 6’10, 215 pound big man from Australia is the younger brother of Marquette sophomore center Harry Froling. He joins Christian Bishop (wing) and Marcus Zegarowski (PG) in next year’s class.
