Rich get Richer… Jays add last piece.

@TrickyTrey23 lifts Creighton to #5 Class-247 for 2021!

What an excellent recruiting cycle it has been in 2021. Fresh off Covid and other assorted foibles, Coach Greg McDermott’s Creighton program has scored its’ greatest recruiting run. Notably the best recruiting class since 2002 (new era of scouting services rankings), and just possibly the best of all-time (perhaps even greater than the Benoit Benjamin-led 1982 Class). Well done Coach Mac, well done!

It has been rumored over the last 2-3 weeks that CU was in the running for the top player from Oklahoma. Trey Alexander comes to the Hilltop unanimously ranked in the Top 100: 55-ESPN, 81-Rivals, and 73-247.com. He has been consistently ranked over the last couple of years, at least. Alexander is one of the top SG’s in the country and is known for his toughness as well as his shooting. Although primarily known as a shooter/scorer, Alexander hangs his hat on defense and rebounding. Heritage Hall won one Class 4A State Championship and was runner-up to two others on his watch. Trey was an Auburn commit, but reopened his recruitment on 22 April.

Here We Go…

Creighton 2021: Best Class –

#5 in 247.com in rankings era-(2002 to now)

It ain’t over until we’ve WON!

Whoa! Wait one… Hold up a minute! Is this the lil’ Creighton we all know and love? You know, lil’ Creighton…in Omaha?

Looks as though that little team “Somewhere in Middle America” has grown up…and become a monster! #Roll Damn Jays!

Coach McDermott and the Jays have done real good in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Creighton has recruited the 247.com #5 class in the country for 2021. Arthur Kaluma #45, Dream City Christian, Glendale, AZ, is the headliner, but all 5 2021 recruits are star caliber and 4 are Top 100 recruits. Included are the best PG in the country in Nat’l Champ Monteverde Academy’s (FL) Ryan Nembhard. Two of the best shooters in the land in Trey Alexander of Heritage Hall HS, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and John Christofilis of Seattle O’Dea HS. Last, but definitely not least is Tennessee’s Mr. Basketball, Memphis’ Houston HS PF Mason Miller.

Creighton has landed a phenomenal class as all are potential starters – even as frosh. State rankings: AZ-3, FL-11, OK-1, TN-1, WA-5.

The Jays have added 2 experienced transfers from the 2021 transfer portal in D2 PF Ryan Hawkins, 22 PPG…3x D2 National Champion from NW Missouri State, and PF/C KeyShawn Feazell, 13 PPG/9 RBG from McNeese State.

All the national writers, talking heads, and knowledgeable pundits had dropped the Jays off their radars and relegated CU to the dustbins of Div 1 hoops for this season. Jays lost all 5 starters to graduation or transfer. Many of the Big East pundits followed the crowd and are/were ready to forecast the Jays down in the conference dregs with DePaul.

Not so fast there my friends, not so fast. Looks as though with this incoming class, coupled with the 6 returning vets, that “lil’ Creighton” is gonna contend again in 2021-22. Just a bit premature to write off the Jays as rebuilding. Ya gotta love it “when a plan comes together.” I’d suggest placing the Jays in the Top 15-18 spots in your preseason polls.

Way to reload on the Hilltop. Nice work Mac and staff, nice work indeed.
