Hard work pays off.  Diligence, persistence, and dogged determination wins the day.  The Creighton coaches have been doin’ work these last 2 months after the season ended to fill the frontcourt holes created by the departures of Sam Froling and Martin Krampelj to the pro ranks.  There efforts bore fruit on Monday when, former Idaho State graduate transfer Kelvin Jones, commited to the Hilltop.  Jones is immediately eligible to play.

According to columnist Jeff Goodman, Jones had interest from Virginia Tech, Oregon, Arkansas, Georgia, Washington State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Boise State, St. John’s, and DePaul.  Kelvin had previously visited VT.  He cancelled other planned visits and commited 1 day after visiting Creighton.

The 6-11/230lb senior is a rugged interior presence.  He averaged 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and shot 55.3% from the field in 29 games last season with the Bengals.  IMHO Kelvin seems to have a fire burning within and still untapped potentials to his game.  Fortunately, in joining the Jays, that potential can be tapped by our coaches and our system.

Coach Huss gave me a phone call — and I can tell you right off the bat that I have never been so excited after talking to coach and hearing his spiel about the campus and their situation,” Jones said. “Right from the get go I was excited to go check it out.

Once we went to check it out it was a whole other deal seeing that place.

He followed his instincts and chose the right school to finish his collegiate career.

For my senior year I just wanted to go somewhere like Creighton where the fans are all about the team and all about winning. That’s all this final year is about.

Welcome to the Hilltop Kelvin.

Big thank u to all 34 college programs(juco-D1) for believing in me and offering me a scholarship. I will now put my focus on these 5 programs moving forward

2020 Ryan Kalkbrenner Update:  Ryan revisited U of Illinois after visiting Creighton.  He has an official visit to Stanford this week.  Looks as if he’s knocking down his visits for a November decision.
2020 Kiyron Powell Update:  No news as of yet.

It’s the College World Series opening weekend in Omaha.  The Creighton Bluejay basketball program is taking advantage to bring in some hoops recruits.  According to the White and Blue Review, Creighton has 3 overlapping visits on tap for college hoops centers.  See link below for details.

Creighton Basketball Practice Report: Summer Edition

Up 1st is 2020 Center Ryan Kalkbrenner from the St Louis area.  He is followed by 2019 grad transfer Center from Utah St., Kelvin Jones.  Finally 2020 Center/Fwd Kiyron Powell, from Evansville, Indiana, visits the Hilltop.  Kalkbrenner and Powell are both top 150 players.

As is widely known Creighton’s frontcourt took hits from the early departures of Sam Froling and Martin Krampelj to the pro ranks.  Transfer Jones would fill an immediate need for depth in the paint for this season.  He averaged 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 29 games for the Bengals last season.  As a grad tranfer Jones has tons of offers, but it is encouraging to get him on campus for an official visit.

Both are official visits, both are 1st visits.  Stay tuned for more…

Late Entry 13 Jun 19:  Combo Fwd Lok Wur, Papio South, Omaha, NB.

Fwd Lok Wur, of Omaha area just recently cleared as academically eligible for Div 1 basketball.  A flurry of offers have been flying about since then…roughly 9 to 11 by Div 1 schools.  CU’s Coach Mac had a meeting with Wur today and CU offered (13th June 19).

Unranked Wur is 6-9. 180/190 lbs.  Wur earned USA Today second team all-state honors this past high school campaign after averaging  a double-double (20.8 points and 10 caroms) for Papillon La Vista South.  At one point earlier in this past season he was shooting 61% from 3pt land.

In the opinion of several he is a project and noted Omaha hoops expert Jacob Padilla was less than optimistic about Wur’s division 1 prospects.  Padilla is “tried and true” in his analysis of players over the years in the Omaha area.:

I’ll believe Kansas “reaching out” means something if anything actually comes of it.

I’ll say this: Creighton has vetted him much more thoroughly than any of those schools that offered him. He has a lot of growing up to do.

I guess we’ll find out this week if Creighton has changed their tune on him.

So Creighton in offering has since changed their previous assessment or Wur has shown enough growth to merit the offer.  Many schools jumped in since he has become eligible, attempting to fill holes/gaps in their rosters.  Creighton too has some holes to fill.
