Staccato: “Bible” Prophecy…Jays

The Blue Ribbon has picked the Bluejays 9th in the Big East this season.  However, there seems to be a disconnect between their conference standing picks and their subsequent analysis?  The overall writeup is good and fair.  The analysis is one of a team who is a contender for a conference crown, not a bottom-feeder.

I think it is fair to surmise that a panel did the various conference rankings and positioning of teams within their conference standings.  The individual analyst who broke down each team seems more objective with their findings.

Got my Blue Ribbon digital copy today.

The “bible” has the Jays 9th in the Big East…BUT…their analysis figures our guys to be much higher than predicted.

The Bluejays finished 3rd in the Big East last season, five games out of 1st. McDermott has another team poised to make the NCAA tournament, but the Bluejays are young, by their standards.

The season could depend mostly on the development of young players and whether Cashaw or another guard can develop as an efficient, high-volume scorer. –James Kellerman

Seems as though no major prognosticator values balanced team scoring…everyone seems to value a “star” player? Oh well.

The 2018-19 Blue Ribbon Pre-season Top 25 is out.  The BR is known as the “Bible of College Basketball” by many.  Only one Big East team in it, Villanova @ #21.

  1. Kentucky
  2. Kansas
  3. Gonzaga
  4. Duke
  5. Tennessee
  6. Nevada
  7. Virginia
  8. Auburn
  9. Oregon
  10. Michigan State
  11. Mississippi State
  12. North Carolina
  13. Kansas State
  14. UCLA
  15. Florida State
  16. West Virginia
  17. Clemson
  18. LSU
  19. Purdue
  20. Florida
  21. Villanova
  22. Syracuse
  23. Michigan
  24. Virginia Tech
  25. TCU

By my estimation Villanova will fall out of the poll(s) by the week of 26Nov18, to be replaced by Creighton, Providence, and or Butler.

Nova looks to lose v Michigan at home, at least 1 at Disney, 22-25 November (Advocare Invitational), and later @ KU. They won’t stay ranked long.

Jays with W’s over The OSU and then Clemson in the Cayman’s Classic should be ranked by the week of 26 November 18. The W over the Zags will boost our rankings.

Prov needs to win over Wichita St. in the Vet’s Classic and win the HoF Tipoff, 17-18 November, to get ranked.

Butler needs to win the Battle for Atlantis, 21-23 November 18, and beat Indiana in the Crossroads Classic on December 15th to get ranked.  Beat Florida on 29 December to stay ranked.

Providence, Creighton, and Butler are my picks, in order, for the Big East top tier this season.
