2019-20 “Way too early” Polls

  Jays in the Mix

The media couldn’t wait to put out their next season predictions.  Some even posted the day of the NCAA Championship game.  Poor Virginia hadn’t yet cut down the nets.  Oh well, such is life.

I took a look at these polls and found that our Creighton Bluejays are represented in approximately half of the ones I found.  Jays are listed in the major polls except Sporting News.  Here’s the list.

NBC                       19th

USA Today         21st

Stadium               22nd

CBS                        23rd

ESPN                     24th

SI                            27th

TheAthletic         38th  (late entry)

Jays not ranked by Fox, Sporting News, 247, Yahoo, Busting Brackets, and SB Nation.

Creighton’s rankings are based predominantly on their returning all five starters and retaining a strong supporting cast.  Average of rankings:  23rd  (22.8).  The Athletic (Seth Davis) only has Nova in his top 25.  He also rated the Jays 4th in their BE Power Rankings, behind Nova, Seton Hall, and Xavier.

The Jays recruiting class consists of transfer guard/sf Denzel Mahoney (who sat out last season) and guards Shereef Mitchell and Jalen Windham.  SF Antwann Jones will sit out this season.

2019-20 has the makings of a promising season of hoops on the Hilltop.  Stay tuned.

Busy 2 weeks on the Hilltop after months of virtual silence.  Visits galore by guards and one by Tristan Enaruna.  PG Bryce Moore stopped in on the 13th-14th.  SGs Jalen Windham and Antwann Jones visited on the 22nd-23rd and 25th respectively.  Enaruna dropped by on the 26th-27th.

Moore is a graduate transfer from W. Michigan U.  Windham is a incoming frosh from Indianapolis, IN.  Jones is a sit 1, play 3 transfer from Memphis U.  Enaruna is a Fwd frosh from the Netherlands/Wasatch Academy, UT.

Moore (Grad Trans) decided on Xavier U. 2 days after visiting.

Jalen Windham, 6-5/170 SG Fr chose Creighton 1 day after visiting.

Antwann Jones, 6-6/215 SG/SF (Sit 1) selected Creighton during his visit.

Tristan Enaruna, 6-9/215 Fwd Fr verballed to Kansas 3 weeks after visit.

These gentlemen join fall signee PG Shereef Mitchell to make up an decent 2019 Class.

Missing on Enaruna is big!  Beating the bushes is now mandatory in hopes of finding a Juco, Grad Transfer, of extremely late bloomer, to augment this miss.

With Martin Krampelj in the 2019 NBA draft and undecided as to whether he may go pro in Europe, there is still some uncertainty in the Bluejay 2019-20 camp.  It would be wise to continue to scour the landscape for another Grad Transfer or Juco center/power fwd, just in case.   There is a slim chance the the basketball gods may grant a miracle…if Sean Miller gets canned at Arizona…Zeke Nnaji may come back on the market.
