Jays Beginning to Hit their Stride – prelude to LV Classic.
The Jays…eight games into the season and are beginning to hit their stride. They aptly dispatched a previously undefeated University of Dayton squad on Wednesday night by a score of 77-59. See Polyfro’s post of the game (click on title of this post) for the full account of the game, over at Inside Creighton Hoops. http://www.polyfro.com/jaysblog/2008/12/200809-game-7-jays-77-dayton-5.html#more and last Saturday had beaten fellow A-10 member St. Joseph’s, at the Palestra in Philly.
With these back-to-back good performances it appears that the young Jays are succeeding in getting the bugs n kinks out of their game. Good. Without a doubt the wins over 2 good A-10 clubs is a welcome sign. Creighton now prepares for their competing in the Las Vegas Classic the next two weekends. The LVC is a step down in competitive level from the LV Invitational, which the Jays had withdrawn last season. However, it is still an opportunity to chalk up four wins and a exempt tourney title this season. The Bluejays will be the pre-emptive favorite to win the LV Classic.
Based on the level of competition left in the non-conference schedule, the Jays should enter MVC play with a 10-2 record.
These next 4 games offer time and opportunity to further work on and refine the rebounding, defense, and team communications portions of the Jays game. They will need these tools for the upcoming conference schedule. Creighton will need a complete package with its’ game, in order to win the MVC Regular Season title.
Contrary to the media and uninformed popular belief – the MVC is not experiencing a “down year”. The conference standings in the Realtime RPI is: RPI – 8th & Power Rating – 10th.
The MVC w/l record is on track to equal the last few years (low 70’s – low 80’s wins overall). The season is settling in and The MVC and the Bluejays are on track thus far. Way to go Jays!
