Hah!! Well, that was interesting folks. French PG Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada visited the Hilltop late last month. It was prematurely posted on X that he had committed to the Jays! NOT SO FAST, Kemosabe! Of course I joined the chorus, Lemming-like, to trumpet the ‘win’ for my Jays!
Officially, the university had no comment(s) throughout the entire episode.
Unofficially, other sources pointed to the following: .Surprisingly, the Jays did not take his commitment… It seems that the young man did not pass academic muster – did not make the academic cutline? WHAT? Academics? In this day and age? With the dominance of NIL, profit-sharing, patch wearing on uniforms, and the rampant, now legal, ‘Pay-for-Play’ system. I amongst many, thought the heyday of academic requirements was a thing of the past, a fond memory. Evidently not at all “bastions of learning”.

- A: Dada was a good player and was a welcome ‘late addition’ to the team.
- B. I had written a nice article for him and it was good reading. Oh well…such is life…win some – lose some.
Jays appear to continue ‘beating the bushes’ to shake out late, overlooked talents. Stay tuned.
