The Omaha World-Herald has named Jon Nyatawa as its primary Creighton beat writer in charge of covering Creighton men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer and baseball.

Nyatawa has been a member of The World-Herald sports staff since 2008, when he began covering Nebraska football.

Nyatawa’s transition to the Creighton beat will be completed this fall. He replaces longtime beat writer Steve Pivovar, who died last month.  No one can “replace” the Piv…so just be yourself – the Best journalist you can become.  Creighton already has a boatload of “Homers”, so be Fair-Knowledgeable-Objective, that will be more than enough.

“Jon has excelled in a variety of coverage areas,” said World-Herald sports editor Thad Livingston. “And his long-time interest in college basketball makes him particularly well-suited for the Creighton job.”

A graduate of Purdue, Nyatawa grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Nyatawa said he is looking forward to covering Creighton as it continues to establish itself in its new conference, the Big East.

“It’s a humbling responsibility to be asked to carry on The World-Herald’s strong tradition of informative and entertaining coverage of Creighton athletics,” Nyatawa said. “I’m excited for the opportunity.”
